Me Nutres – Improving the nutrition of under-three-year-olds children in Ascensión

The first three years in the life of a child are decisive for a healthy, productive life. The project therefore aims to increase the skills of the volunteers, health personnel, and the mothers themselves for the prevention of anemia and diarrhea, significant causes of chronic child malnutrition.

The joint work with existing institutions and social organizations, mainly the Vaso de Leche (Glass of Milk) Program, the Municipality, and the Ministry of Health, among others, has led to institutionalized and coordinated  participatory work with the different local institutions. This ensures the continuity of the intervention, as long as the authorities and leaders are sensitive to the issue and willing to act on it, and that this is translated into commitments, implementation, and co-management of work plans for improving the health status of the children.

Objective: To improve the health and nutrition status of children under three years of age in the district of Ascensión in Huancavelica, promoting better care practices with regard to the children’s diet and hygiene in the home.

Source of funding: Fondo de las Américas (Fund of the Americas) – FONDAM

Project area: District of Ascensión, Huancavelica

    Duration: December 2004 – June 2006
