Strategic plan to improve access and quality of the education sector in the provincial municipality of El Santa

The Project was carried out by a consortium, made up of Fundación Internacional de Apoyo al Desarrollo Local y Social (FIADELSO) [International Foundation for Support to Local Social Development (FIADELSO), the Provincial Municipality of El Santa, San Pedro University of Chimbote and Prisma.  Its goal was to improve the educational status of 16 state schools in marginal-urban areas under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Municipality of El Santa, Chimbote; more specifically in human settlements around Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote.  The aim was to improve existing school infrastructure and provide furniture and materials required for teaching; and to draw up a plan of training and innovation for the teachers, based on an open school concept and a system of education that is participatory, inclusive, and productive, encouraging the participation of the community in the educational task.

In this project, Prisma was responsible for the design and implementation of the communications component.  It was based on a strategic approach of synergy, whereby we promoted the commitment of all the social stakeholders involved in education, in particular the parents, encouraging the construction of participatory communication practices that strengthened their commitment to their children’s education, and recognition of their role by the community, as well as boosting community self-esteem.

The plan directly benefited 3,000 children in early, elementary, and high school education, as well as the teaching staff of the schools involved (200 individuals), and the families of these children (50.000 individuals).

By means of the cooperation agreement of November 2008, entered into with FIADELSO, and in the framework of its activities and responsibilities, Prisma´s role in the project was in the component of awareness raising, public communication, and cultural education, the main line of action for achieving the outcomes planned by the project.
