    The project “Vacations and Academic Support – Las Bambas” is an intervention that aims at boosting the knowledge of low-income families’ children and teenagers, strengthening the natural talents and learning during vacations.

    Goal: Help in improving the learning goals of regular basic education (EBR) children through the implementation of fun workshops of reading comprehension (CL), Problem Solving (RP) and Social Skills (HS) during vacations in the MMG Las Bambas influence area.

    Source of funding: Las Bambas Mining Company.

    Scope of intervention: 400 children during vacations and 400 children for PREU in Challhuahuacho, Apurimac.

    Duration: January 2019 – February 2019.

    Expected Results:

    1. The students improve the artistic expression, creativity and psychomotricity skills through the implementation of music, dance, painting and sports workshops.
    2. The students improve their reading, logical and mathematical problem resolution, and scientific research skills through the implementation of academic support workshops in Communication, Math and Science.
    3. Students in the 4th of 5th year of secondary school of Pumamarca build their capacities in Communication, Math, Social Science and Science-Technology-Environment (CTA) under the PREU modality.

    Achievements:

    • Competencies and capacities workshops goals were achieved in 85%.
    • Students learnt what was planned in each group and showed dedication in learning by playing
    • Students showed joy and enthusiasm when learning new things.
    • They also showed that they enjoyed the activities and therefore improved their learning.
    • Confidence was achieved by the students as part of their progress.
    • The balance, rhythm and agility showed that they were able to control their bodies when doing the physical exercises and movements.
    • Secondary school students engaged in advanced work to reinforce long-term knowledge.
    • Trash and toilets were well managed by the administrative personnel.
