Construction and installation of 15 000 improved wood stoves in vulnerable homes in Huancavelica and Junin for the “Cocina Perú” National Family Stove Program of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru

    “Cocinas Mejoradas” (Improved Stoves) are beneficial to people and to the environment, so the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) selected Prisma to install improved stoves to benefit 6 000 families in the project area.

    The stove model used for the installations in people’s homes was the Inkawasi Pichqa model, made to the technical specifications indicated by MINEM and certified by SENCICO. Prior to the construction process, there was a stage of promotion of the improved stoves, consisting in group education sessions in each locality, with the objective of making this new technology and its benefits known to the families; the construction process involved the participation of a member of the household so that he or she could acquire knowledge on the process; and likewise, at the end of the installation, each household was given guidance as to the operation and correct maintenance of the improved stoves, to ensure that they would be used properly. Educational material was handed to the families, including messages about operation and maintenance.

    Project area: 6 thousand families of 19 districts of the provinces of Huancayo, Jauja and Concepción in Junín.
