\nMaternal and neonatal mortality is still high in our country, especially in the Andean highlands and the jungle, above all in the rural area. In the Ucayali Region, 261 mothers die per 100,000 live births, a figure far above the national average.\u00a0 A similar situation is reflected in the infant mortality figures that report 47 deaths per thousand children versus a national average of 33, of which 50% are newborn.\u00a0 The most frequent causes of death are respiratory problems, asphyxia at birth, premature labor, and congenital causes.\u00a0 Given this situation, the project came into being to reduce maternal, perinatal, and infant morbidity and mortality, increasing the use, coverage, and quality of care provided by the healthcare services for the mother and newborn, and improving healthcare practices at the household level.<\/p>\n

Objective:<\/strong> To improve the health of pregnant women and children under one year of age in nine districts in Ucayali, with emphasis on the continuity of care between the gestation and the first month of life, through a community approach.<\/p>\n

Source of funding:<\/strong> USAID \u2013 Child Health Grant Program\/INMED Partnerships for Children<\/p>\n

Project area:<\/strong> Province of Coronel Portillo (districts of Caller\u00eda, Yarinacocha, Nueva Requena, Campo Verde, Masisea, and Iparia) and province of Padre Abad (districts of Padre Abad, Irazola, and Curiman\u00e1).<\/p>\n
